Flint and stone with Roman brick, the 1330s tower is 65 feet tall and has been a landmark for 675 years. The tower door is used for bishop's visits and new vicars claim keys there

More than 400 English churches were dedicated to St Nicolas, mostly in the 13th century; Witham was one of the earliest. England introduced the "h" into Nicolas' name, Witham has used the original spelling since about 1950.
