Church of England (Anglican)
Pyrford means "the ford by the pear tree." The Norman church, built around AD 1140, has original red ochre frescoes that were uncovered during renovations in 1869 and 1967. They are from two periods and illustrate scenes from Christ's passion and pilgrims settiing off for Spain. The poet John Donne lived for a time in Pyrford and would have worshipped in St Nicholas.
