Deventer Netherlands
[Roman Catholic]
The church, in the medieval district Bergkwartier, was consecrated to St. Nicolaas in 1206. Over the years the Romanesque church has had a number of alterations and additions, with Gothic style changes around 1460. It was closed as a church in the 1960s as the neighborhood changed. It then served for a time as a mosque before falling into decay. The city purchased it and restoration took place in 1971-1972. The church is now a museum. It is featured on a Dutch stamp from 2006.
