Kryvyi Rih / Krivoy Rog Ukraine
Ukrainian Orthodox
The cathedral was built and consecrated in 2003, replacing earlier St. Nicholas churches on the same spot. First was a wooden church that burned in the Russo-Turkish war; it was rebuilt in 1861. Then a stone church was built around it in 1863. The wooden church part became dilapidated and was removed in 1872. During the Soviet time the stone church was taken down, stone by stone and the icon thrown into an ore mine.
