Cerkiew sw. Mikolaja Cudotworcy

Stary Pawlow Poland

[Greek Catholic (Byzantine)] Roman Catholic

The church was built in 1929-1930. Originally Greek Catholic it is now Roman Catholic. It is a registered historic monument. The first Uniate church was probably from the 1500s; then a wooden one was built in 1741; it burned in a fire and rebuilt again. Russians took it over in 1875 and made it an Orthodox Church. It was famous for a miraculous icon of St. Nicholas that survived the church's disrepair, exposure to bad weather, and fire. After Poland's independence it was again Uniate Greek Catholic. Believers prayed before the St. Nicholas icon, especially on December 19. In 1946 it was consecrated as a Roman Catholic chapel and thoroughly renovated in 2011.
