Chapel of St. Nicholas, Protector of Mariners

Killisnoo, Alaska USA

[Russian Orthodox]

The chapel was built in 1889 on a small island off Admiralty Island. The Northwest Trading Company had opened a trading post and fish packing plant there in the 1870s. A whaling station opened in 1890. The whole town was destroyed by fire in 1927, and everyone moved away, relocating to Angoon.
