The church was built by people from Sant'Anza in the 1200s. It was damaged in earthquakesfrom 1315, 1349, and 1461. It was again destroyed in 703 and rebuilt smaller in 1722, using the transcept for the nave and the nave for a vegetable garden. In 1927 the church was demolished to make way for a residential neighborhood.
