The church dates from 1218. In 1756 the Rule of Chizzola was established to maintain the church building and also to begin building a new church. It was completed in 1763, the bell tower in 1764, and the church was consecrated in 1768. Badly damaged during World War I, it was abandoned and looted for quite some time. It was repaired and blessed on 6 December 1921. Interior painting was done in 1928 and 1929. Further restoration took place in the 1950s and the bell tower dome covered in copper in 1982.
