The village was built in the 17th to 18th centuries; it was abandoned in the 1960s. It was first owned by the Messina Curia and the land was used grow citrus and perfumed essences were extracted from the fruit. The church was built, probably in the 1400s, to serve the workers. There is effort now to revive the village with some people moving in. The church belongs to the parish of Massa San Giorgio.
