Chiesa San Nicolò di Bari

Alcamo, Sicily Italy

[Roman Catholic]

The Romanesque, early Renaissance-style church was built in 1558, replacing an ancient one. It was the home of the Confraternity of Mercy and the Most Holy Crucifix. The noble members cared for prisoners, and the poor. After 1896 the Monte di Prestiti, a banking house, occupied the building, removing the altar to install a safe. The Public Information Office and Tourist Office currently occupy the building.
