Agia Sophia, Thermou Greece
Greek Orthodox
The complex of three Byzantine churches from the 1200s is in the village cemetery on the east side of the village. The churches of Agios Nikolaos and Taxiarhon are twinned, built against each other. The third circh of Agia Sophia is ruined with just the outer walls and easternmost pediment arches are preserved. The twinned churches were built using boulders hewn and cut from the ancient Temple of Artemis. There are ancient and Byzantine inscriptions and a 2nd century Roman inscription in the south wall of Agios Nikolaos.
