The church, the oldest in Sokal, was built in the first half of the 16th century. It is regarded as the cradle of the Greek Catholic Church as Ukrainian Orthodox priest met with the Bishop of Przemysl in 1594 to discuss uniting with the Roman Catholic Church. The church is defensive with walls 2.4 meters thick. It is a unique example of Renaissance Galician architecture.
