Church of St. Nicholas

Romanovci Bosnia & Herzegovina

Serbian Orthodox

The church was most likely built in the 1700s; it was repaired in 1812 and 1815, as carved into the doors. Several legends surround the origin of the church. When the people asked for permission to build a church, the Turks gave a pond as the place where a church could be built. Men brought stones and women brought earth, burying the lake. The second tradition says that the Turks allowed construction of the church in only one day with the pond as the place. When the Serbian builders got up early in the morning, the pond had disappeared overnight.
