Church of St. Nikola Gorni

Carev Dvor nr. Resen North Macedonia

Macedonian Orthodox

The church was built in 1875 on the foundations of an older one in the northern part of the village. It was painted from 1839 - 1883. Legend tells that when the villagers wanted to build their church, Turkish authorities did not allow it. The villagers tricked the Turks by carving a cross on a stone and burying it where they wanted to build the church. Then they went to the Turks with their request, telling them that if they dug there would be a "sign of God." The Turks eventually relented and allowed the digging. When the stone was found, construction of the church was permitted.
