Church of St Nicholas & St Spyridon
Davelis Cave

Penteli Greece

[Greek Orthodox]

The Byzantine cave church is located on Pendeli Mountain. The church is double-sided, one side dedicated to each of the two saints. 12th century Christian hermits occupied the cave. Deeper into the cave the god Pan was worshiped and many excavated artifacts depict Pan. The cave's name, Davelis, comes from a 19th century bandit who used it as a hideout.
