The church was built from 1898-1901to serve immigrants who lived along the railway and in nearby villages. Soviet authorities closed it in 1923 and the building was used as a school and then as a railwaymen's club. Extensions on the sides were added for libraries. The church was returned to the Orthodox community in 1991 and the parish registered in 1992. Restoration took place in 1992 and it was reconsecrated in 1993, on St Nicholas Day, December 19. It has a chapel of Mary of Egypt.
