Church of St. Nicholas

Lviv - Shevchenkivskyi Grove
(Kryvka)
Ukraine

Ukrainian Orthodox

The church, built in 1761 or 1763, is in the Klymenty Sheptytsky Museum of Folk Architecture and Life in Lviv. It was originally in the village of Kryvka. The entire village, save just the church, was burned and destroyed in World War I. When a new, larger church was built, it was dismantled and moved in 1930 to Lviv as the first building in the open-air Museum of Folk Architecture and Life. The original iconostasis remained in the new Kryvka church. The iconostasis, dated about 1800, is from the old church in Volya-Zhovtanetska. The reassembled church was re-consecrated as the Wisdom of God. The wooden fence and gate were built in 1931. Since 1990 it's been in the care of monks from St. John's Study Lavra and is a functioning church. The 250th anniversary of the church was celebrated in 2013.
