The church was built in 1640. Restoration took place in 1728, 1823, and it was completed in 1861-1875. The church was consecrated in 1884. It was again renovated in 1904-1906. The priest was arrested and sent to camps in 1930. Again in 1935 the next pastor was arrested and sent to camps. The church was closed in 1937 and housed a district consumer operation. It functioned as a church again during the German occupation. It was closed again in the late 1940s. It was used as a radio station and a gym in 1956, and the next year as a cinema. An ordinary house was rebuilt as a chapel in 1973 and used until the church was returned in 1989 and reconsecrated. Following renovation in 1999, the church was reconsecrated again. The parish is served by Marian Fathers and Ursuline Sisters.
