The first mention of the monastery is in 1522, saying it was a family monastery. It was annexed to the Orthodox Church in 1839. It was closed after World War II and used first for an agricultural school, then a boarding house for the disabled and elderly. Worship was only in the cemetery church that became a parish. The monastery was revived in 1994
