The church was built in 1870-1872, authorized by the Turkish government. Villagers raised the funds over five years. It was consecrated in 1873. The church was declared a n architectural and artistic cultural monument of national importance in 1973. As the village has depopulated, regular services are no longer held. At the end of the 1900s the bell was stolen along with other church equipment. The structure is cracking and the iconostasis is at risk of damage.
