The monastery was commissioned in 1095; rebuilt in 1266 and painted in 1271. The monastery church has three aisles, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Archangel Michael, and St. Nicholas. The church was extensively repaired and rebuilding of the western wall in the 19th century. It has significant wall paintings from the 1271, showing the golden age of Byzantine culture. Most of the monastery complex was destroyed in World War I. Frescoes were conserved in 2015.
