Holy Cell of Saint Nikolaos Bourazeris

Karyes, Mount Athos Greece

Greek Orthodox

The Cell is a satellite monastic community of the Monastery of Chilandari, Mount Athos. Legends tells that Archbishop Sava, in the late 1100s, on return from Jerusalem, lost his way, and spent the night in an empty cell he found. When he thanked the caretaker, the caretaker gave him the key. Abp. Sava restored the cell and used it for times of solitude. It is more a small monastery than a cell. The church has two aisles, dedicated to Saint NIkolaos and to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. High quality church wine is produced there. The Cell is easily found following signs to Bourazeris.
