Koncul Monstery - Nikoljaca

Raska Serbia

Serbian Orthodox

The monastery is on the bank of the Ibar River, a short distance south of Raska. It was built around 1175 and dedicated to St. Nicholas. It was destroyed in the Austro-Turkish was in 1689. The monastery church was rebuilt in 1861 and was the only remaining part of the monastery complex. Nuns came from Kosovo and Metohija in 2000 and have renewed the monastery after centuries of abandonment. A new church was built, following the original foundations, in 2011. There are now workshops for sewing and icon-writing and the nuns make miniatures on parchment. The church, now the parish church for the Koncul hamlet, is also a cultural heritage site.
