The church was built in 1885-86,; the parish was founded before 1325 and had an earlier wooden church. It had two wooden towers, one on the front of the church, the larger one in the middle with a bell. The roof was tile and the aisles sheet metal. The fence still stands around the church. The church was consecrated in 1860. At the start of World War II the parish priest was arrested and then shot; the church was closed in 1940. Wind overturned the smaller tower, damaging the roof; gutters were taken; windows broken; the belfry removed; and the statue of Mary, outside the church, was broken and removed. In 1945 the new priest tidied up the church, bought three bells, and liturgical equipment. Electricity was installed in 1958 and further interior renovations carried out in the 1960s. New pews, a post-Conciliar altar, pulpit, and table for banners were purchased in 1973. More was accomplished in the 1980s and 90s: electric heating, interior restoration, a new altar, three new bells, and more.
