Korisos / Kastoria Greece
Greek Orthodox
The monastery is on the western slopes of Mount Askos, 19 kilometers east of Kastoria. The buildings were thought to date from the 1600s. During the late 1800s it functioned as an orphanage and school for the surrounding villages. In 1905 it was looted and burned by Bulgarians in the Macedonian Struggle. The monastery reopened in 1963 with two nuns and was converted from a men"s to a women"s monastery. A new katholikon was built in 1969.
