Mykolaiv Church

Druzhkivka Ukraine

Ukrainian Orthodox

The church was built in 1898 and consecrated two years later. Bolsheviks closed the church in 1924, looting it and removing the bells. It was used as a workers' club, then a canteen, and a tractor station in 1940. In 1942 Germans allowed the church to reopen and be restored. Closed again in 1962 by Soviets, it was then used as a cinema. Major restoration began in 1977 so it could be used as a local history museum from 1984-1988, when services resumed. Ukrainian independence in 1991 gave it official status as a church.
