The monastery was Greek Catholic when it was first founded in 1719. It became Orthodox when Russia annexed the area in the last half of the 18th century. The monastery was closed in 1937. From 1946 to 1963 it housed an agricultural technical school, then it stood empty, until the 1980s when the city arts museum occupied the space. It was returned to the church in 1986 and restoration as a monastery.
