Saint Nicholas Church & Monastery

Sozopol Bulgaria

[Eastern Orthodox]

The medieval monastery was discovered in 2011 during archeological excavations along the southern fortress wall. The three-nave church was built on a one-nave church from the 5th-6th century. Artifacts suggest the church was under the patronage of the Byzantine emperors. A reliquary with St. Nicholas of Myra manna was found in a small niche. It is a small clay pot with lid and contained emulsion and powder.
