St. Nicholas Cathedral
St. Nicholas Samara Monastery

Orlivschyna / Novomoskovsk Ukraine

Ukrainian Orthodox

The monastery was founded, growing up beginning in 1576, around a small St. Nicholas church. The cathedral church was built in 1787. After turbulent times over the centuries, the monastery was closed and liquidated by the Soviets and used as a nursing home and later as a boarding school for children with intellectual disability. It revived as a parish in 1993 and again as a nunnery in 1995. In 1998 it changed again, becoming a men's monastery.
