Shuyeretskoye / Shuya, Republic of Karelia Russia
[Russian Orthodox]
The wooden St. Nicholas Church, dating from around 1600, had a distinctive northern tall tower known as a "tent" and was clad in plank siding in the late 1800s. The three Shuyeretskoye churches were all closed and vandalized in the early Soviet period. By the end of the war they were badly deteriorating and were destroyed by fire started by a 1947 lightning strike.
