St. Nicholas Church

Konotop Ukraine

Ukrainian Orthodox

The wooden church was built in 1891, making it one of the oldest wooden churches in the Sumy region. In 1933, after taking the wheat, Soviet troops began to take the icons, crosses, vestments, and other church utensils. The church elder rang the bells to warn people. The people ran and the armed detachment retreated, probably saving the church building. The priest was killed that same day. The church was converted into a club, then was empty for a long time. Major reconstruction and improvement took place in 2007.
