The church dates from the 1200s. It was located outside the town walls. It was one of only two Catholic churches used for worship in Clonmel following the Reformation (1517-1648). It was no longer used in 1966; the graveyard, also known as Old Bridge cemetery, was. Plague victims were buried in mass graves here in the 1300s and again in the 1600s. The ruin is a recorded monument on the Archaeological Survey of Ireland.
