St. Nicholas Church

Binduga Ukraine

[Roman Catholic]

The brick church was built in 1764, by the village owner. There were three altars in 1818: Our Lady, St. Nicholas, and St. Anthony. It was also used by Greek Catholics. The church was restored in 1845. A 1902 description includes new roof shingles, a bell tower with three bells, and the main icon with new silver gilding. Soviets closed and plundered the church in 1939; the evicted residents returned during the German occupation and restored the church. The village was again evicted after the war and the church stood until the 1950s when it was dismantled and the bricks used to built border guard buildings and a school. The main altar image of the Mother of God with Child was moved in 1940 to the chapel in Zemlytsia; it was returned to the parish church in 1942. It is now in Dubenka.
