Medvedivka Ukraine
[Russian Orthodox]
A St. Nicholas Church has been here since the 1600s—a wooden three-story, shingled church. In 1782 the monks requested permission to dismantle the dilapidated wooden church. This was granted and construction took place from 1785 - 1795. The new church was a spectacular example of wooden architecture; the logs were covered with vertical planks. The monastery was closed in 1929 and the buildings given to the agricultural commune and destroyed in 1931. St. NIcholas Church is included in the "List of landmarks of History and Culture that need to be restored."
