The monastery was found around the middle of the 1400s; it moved to the latter location and the St. Nicholas Cathedral was built from 1690-1694. In 1831 the cathedral was made a garrison and the monastery moved away. From 1919-30 the St. Nicholas Cathedral belonged to the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, with liturgy conducted for the first time in Ukrainian. The monastery was closed and building demolished by Soviets in 1934.
