Chaussy, Ile-de-France France
[Roman Catholic]
The lower castle was fortified in the 1400s as part of the line of defense in the Hundred Years' War. The Saint-Nicolas Tower is part of the lower castle, near a Benedictine women's priory in the 11th or 12th century. Perhaps that contributed to the tower being named Saint-Nicolas. The tower contains a spring that may have at one time been a holy well of Saint-Nicolas. The entire site of 100 hectares has been classified as a historic monument since 1941. The complex also has the later Ninon manor, both French and English gardens, Italian statues, and much more.
