The Romanesque field stone church was built around 1200, dedicated to St Nicholas patron saint of merchants and traders. Since the end of the 16th century it has been used for secular purposes. In the 17th century as residence for the poor that divided the space into two floors. It has also been a military hospital, detention facility for the Tangermunde garrison, and a police prison. The Choir room was converted into a fire house in 1856. In the last half of the 20th century it hosted the city's cultural associations. It has been a restaurant and inn.
