The church was built on a hill in 1653. It has been restored in 1734, 1795, 1824, and 1866. It how has a capacity of 700. It was closed in 1930 and used as a grain warehouse. The church was reopened in 1941 and worship has continued since. It is one of the few remaining European churches painted in the Apocalypse style. A healing pool is at the base of the hill; St. Nicholas baptismal pool was built over it in 2002.
