Partnership with Virginia Theological Seminary

St. Nicholas Center has partnered with Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) in Alexandria, Virginia. VTS, an Episcopal seminary founded in 1823, prepares women and men from around the world for both ordained and lay service in the church.

The partnership has three parts:

  1. Who Is Saint Nicholas? a permanent exhibit for all ages, located in the Welcome Center
  2. St. Nicholas Center website with resources for families, churches, and schools
  3. St. Nicholas Center for Faith & Justice to focus on contemporary justice issues as Nichols did in his time

Both our website and museum-quality Who Is St. Nicholas? exhibit will have a permanent home at VTS. The website in Lifelong Learning, the exhibit in the Welcome Center, and St. Nicholas Faith & Justice Center in Bohlen Hall.

The exhibit is open to the public year around whenever the seminary is open. Those who love St. Nicholas and those who wonder about St. Nicholas will be able to learn more about this wonderful saint.

The St. Nicholas Exhibit opened in September 2023 as part of the VTS Bicentennial Celebration. It's formal dedication will be December 17, 2023.

St. Nicholas concern for the weak and vulnerable will be an important part of the St. Nicholas Faith & Justice Center. His stories and legends connect with current issues and call us to respond with advocacy on behalf of children, those who are hungry, trafficked, incarcerated, facing execution, or inequality

Kyle Lambelet, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Ethics, is the Director of the Saint Nicholas Center for Faith & Justice. The Center has three St. Nicholas Fellows and works with other campus groups concerned with justice issues.

Organizations whose work for justice, as St. Nicholas did, will be featured. These will include Episcopal Relief & Development, Episcopal Public Policy Network, and the American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem. The center opened fall 2024.
