Make Ornaments from Cards

Make ornaments using pictures from St. Nicholas cards; mount St. Nicholas designs on either punched shapes or paper coasters.

Materials

  • St. Nicholas cards
  • Metallic foil card stock/metallic foil board, card stock or poster board;
  • or White paper coasters with scalloped edge
    the ones shown are 3 ¼-inch; links to options below
  • 6-inch lengths of 1/8-inch ribbon or gold cord

Equipment

Directions

If you have a variety of punches and are doing a group activity, prepare a variety of sizes and shapes so people may choose what they like;

  •  Punch out as many St. Nicholas design pieces as needed;
    Tip: turn punch upside down, insert card so you can see the design, center the design; then, holding the design in place, push down on the punch back to punch out the design—do this with the punch still upside down.
  • Punch out as many background pieces as needed; skip if using paper coasters.
  • Tie a knot in the ends of the ribbon or cord, forming a loop so they are ready to attach with a half hitch; then the ornament will hang facing out;
    prepare ahead of time as this is difficult for children to do;
  • Glue the design piece in the center of the background piece;
  • Punch hole at the top for ribbon or cord;
  • Attach ribbon or cord with a half-hitch.
