St. Nicholas Monuments in Luxembourg

Porte St. Nicolas, Remich

St. Nicolas, revered as the patron saint of fishermen and boatmen, stands on the gate that was once the main entrance into Remich. The town sits on the west bank of the River Moselle. The gate is now at the foot of the town, on the Esplanade.

Wiltz

A statue honoring Richard Brookins, the American St. Nicolas, was unveiled in December 2014. The town remembers 1944 when American soldiers provided a St. Nicolas party for the children of Wiltz in 1944. The town had just been liberated, though it was retaken just weeks later. Wiltz has re-enacted the American St. Nicolas every year since 1949 and Richard Brookins has returned for the celebration eight times. The statue is in front of Wiltz Castle.
